The plaque commemorates Sergeant Neil Grant who died at Rensburg, South Africa during the South African (Boer) War.
A service in memory of the late Sergeant Neil Grant, of the Victorian Mounted Rifles, who during the recent war in South Africa was killed in action at Rensburg, was held on Sunday at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Sturt street. There was a large congregation and the Rev. T. R. Cairns who officiated took for his subject, The Life of a Soldier. The local militia and Mounted Rifles were in attendance, and during the service a tablet in memory of the late Sergeant Grant was unveiled.
