The plaque commemorates Corporal Joffre D. James, a member of the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) who died in World War Two.
The plaque was originally at the base of a pencil pine outside St Peters Church, East Fremantle. When the church closed, it was transferred to its current location.
