The wooden tablet commemorates Lance Corporal Edward C. Chesher and Corporal Alfred Allen who died in the South African (Boer) War.  Lance Corporal Chesher was killed in action and Corporal Allen died of enteric fever. 

Forbes, Monday.
At the Church of England, Eugowra, yesterday afternoon, the Rev. W. J. Dunstan conducted a service in memory of the late Corporal A. E. Allen, of the Mounted Rifles, and the late Corporal Edward Chester, of the Bushmen. At the conclusion a tablet was unveiled by Mr. Wise, Attorney General. The tablet was erected by friends of the deceased in the Eugowra district.

Corporal Alfred Allen who died of Enteric Fever at Pretoria S.A. on the  18th October 1900

Aged 32 years.
