Dedication
Boer War 1899-1902
Of the 23,000 Colonials and Australians who served in
the Boer War, many were from the Sherwood district.
Local residents were also among the 1,000 casualties
who died in battle, from wounds or from sickness.
This plaque honours the memory of those from the
Sherwood district who were killed in action at the
Battle of Onverwacht Hills on 4th January 1902 as
commemorated by the memorial that was erected in
their memory at Sherwood Cemetery by their families,
friends and the wider Sherwood district community.
