The bust and plaque were erected in memory of Sister Nancy Harris and Sister Marie Eileen Craig, graduate nurses of the Royal North Shore Hospital who lost their lives in World War Two.
Sister Nancy Harris was one of the 21 nurses massacred on Banka Island by the Japanese during World War Two. Sister Marie Craig disappeared while on an evacuation flight from Biak to Townsville by way of Merauke in September 1945.
