The plaque was erected in memory of Corporal Arthur E. Dutton who was killed in action at Messines in France in June 1917 during World War One.
The family also erected a grave to Arthur Dutton in the Elmore Cemetery, which has on the face of the headstone his "Dead Man's Penny".
Corporal Arthur E. Dutton was recently killed in action in France. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Dutton, of Elmore and left with the 38th Battalion. Prior to enlisting he was engaged in farming pursuits in the Corop district, of which he was a native, and being of a genial disposition and true type of an Australian, made a large number of friends.
