The plaque commemorates Gunner Leslie Ramsay Ebsworth who was killed in action in October 1917 in Ypres, Belgium during World War One.
Mr. D. J. Lobban received a wire this morning from Mr. E. Ebsworth, Chairman of the Land Board at Orange, and formerly occupying a similar position here, stating that he had been advised that his only son, Gunner Leslie Ebsworth, had been killed in action on October 15. The young soldier was articled to Mr. Lobban. The Mayor of Grafton (Ald. McFarlane) wrote to Mr. Ebsworth this morning, expressing his own and the Grafton citizens` deepest sympathy with him in his loss.
