Wing Commander Charles C. LearmonthPrint Page
The stained glass window commemorates Wing Commander Charles Cuthbertson Learmonth, who was killed on active service in January 1944 during World War Two. He was killed when his Beaufort, A9-346 crashed while air training near Rottnest Island in January 1944.
Well aware that his Beaufort aeroplane was about to crash he continued to radio information on the aeroplane's performance that resulted in crucial changes being made to the aeroplane and consequently other lives were saved.
On the 2nd March 1947, twelve stained glass windows were unveiled in Geelong Grammar's Chapel of All Saints. The windows commemorate twelve old boys who lost their lives during World War Two. The Reverend J. D. McKie, Bishop of Geelong declared that the windows would serve as a reminder of gallant young men who had laid down their lives.
