The brass plaque commemorates Flying Officer John Du Vernet Broughton who was killed in action during World War Two.
Flight-Lieut. John D. Broughton was shot down and reported missing in April 1941, as a result of air operations near Iffel Meer (Zuyder Zee ). His parents were later informed by the Red Cross Society that his body was washed ashore in Holland. Flight-Lieut. Broughton was on his way to England when war broke out, and was the first Australian to be accepted by the R.A.F. He was educated at Barker College,Hornsby 1918 -1924. After leaving school he was engaged in pastoral pursuits at "Belltrees" Scone.
