The framed paper illuminated address commemorates Private Frank Joseph Pooler who was killed in action in France in July 1917 during World War One. 

From the 1880s to the 1930s illuminated addresses were a popular way to mark special occasions or outstanding service.

In memory of Frank Joseph Pooler 

Who fell in the Great War of the Empire against Germany and despotic might.

He joined Carmichael`s 36th Battalion in January, 1916, and was killed in action in France in July, 1917.

We, the Cargelligo War Service Committee beg to present this Address to his mother on behalf of the people
of Cargelligo and District as a token of appreciation and regard of her son Frank who was one of those who counted not his life his own, but gave it in the cause of honor and liberty.

"No man hath greater love than this that he giveth his life for others."
