The park seat commemorates Flight Sergeant Clifford Hopgood who was killed in action in February 1944 during World War Two.

Flight Sergeant Clifford Berger Hopgood, official number 414565 from 460 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force attached to the Royal Air Force, was killed on February 24, 1944, aged 28, and buried in the village cemetery at Villers-Sous-Preny, Lorraine, France.

A departmental manager, he was born in Toowoomba on August 3, 1915 and lived at 89 Royal Parade, St Johns Wood.
