Citation for the award of the Military Medal
"On the 7th and 8th June 1917, during operations south of Messines, for conspicuous gallantry and bravery whilst under heavy hostile fire. This man acted as a runner from the Brigade forward station remaining on duty for 48 hours and carrying messages continuously for a period of ten hours when no telephonic communication was possible owing to the cutting of communications by the enemy barrage.
He made repeated journeys to the rear, and was instrumental in keeping Brigade communications intact. He showed utter disregard for danger and displayed untiring courage throughout.
