The tombstone erected by his military comrades, commemorates Sapper H. F. Dallain of the Royal Australian Engineers, who died in Queenscliff Hospital on the 11th April 1902.
The operations at the forts have hitherto been very free from casualties, but unfortunately a death has occurred amongst the Submarine Engineers. During the work at Swan Island, Sapper D'Allaine, an old member of the corps, was stricken with paralysis. He was removed to the military hospital, but died last night. Deceased will be buried tomorrow with full military honors.
