The park commemorates Norman Douglas Thornton who was a businessman in Denmark. The plaque at the park was unveiled in 2011 to commemorate 100 years of local government in the district.

Norm Thornton Park

Norm Thornton Park was officially named in 1984 to honour Norman Douglas Thornton.

Norm was born into a pioneer Denmark family, was raised and educated in Denmark, served on Timor and other islands in WWII as part of the 2/2nd Independent Commando Company.

Returning to Denmark he established a building business, trained numerous apprentices and was responsible for the construction of many of the buildings in Denmark.

He was a man with a passion for his community.

Erected in 2011 to commemorate 100 years of Local Government of the District, from 26 September 1911.
