Sergeant Jim FletcherPrint Page
The sundial was erected by the people of Londonderry in memory of Sergeant Fletcher for his devotion to duty during his term as officer in charge of Richmond Police from 1961 to 1967.
Mr. N.T.W. Allen, Commissioner of Police, said it was the first memorial of its kind in the history of the NSW Police Force. No other memorials had ever been erected by a local community to commemorate a local police officer. The NSW Police Band and a squad of 20 Sergeants provided a guard of honour for the unveiling which was performed by Alderman Chapman, the Mayor of Penrith.
