The plaque, over the grave was erected in memory of Constable Joseph Vincent Murphy who served as a police officer from 1897 until his death in 1906. The plaque is located behind the grave of Constable Patrick Cahill. 

LONGREACH, Feb. 1.—Constable Joseph Murphy died in the hospital at 1 o'clock to-day. The deceased, who was a Toowoomba native, was 28 years of age, and had been in the Police Force over eight years. He at one time played for the North Brisbane electorate football club, and several times represented Longreach. He will be buried tomorrow.
