The park was named in honour of Stanley Robinson OAM who served on the Mullumbimby Council and the Byron Shire Council for 22 years.  He was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his services to local government.

The plaque also commemorates the centenary of the first meeting of the Byron Shire Council in 1906.
