The replica of the common seal was placed as a tribute to Norman Griffiths, former Town Clerk for 50 years service to the council and residents of Ku-Ring-Gai. Norman Griffiths retired from the council in 1969 and received a British Empire Medal in 1971 for his services to local government.
Mr Norman Lawrence Griffiths joined the Ku-Ring-Gai Shire Council on 27/9/1919 as a clerk in the Engineers Department. He was promoted to Accountant in 1929. He served as Town Clerk for 22 years from 18/11/1947 until his retirement on 21/9/1969.
