The plaque commemorates the opening of Paul Keating Park, named in honour of Paul Keating, a former Prime Minister of Australia. Paul Keating was born and raised in Bankstown and held the Federal seat of Blaxland for 27 years. 

Paul John Keating (born 18 January 1944) is an Australian politican who was the 24th Prime Minister of Australia and the Leader of the Labour Party from 1991 to 1996. Born in a working-class Sydney suburb and having left school at 15, Keating was first elected to the House of Representatives at 25, winning the seat of Blaxland in 1969.
