Front Inscription

       JOHN CHARLES DARKE
On His Journey Of Exploration To The Gawler 
Ranges, Left Port Lincoln 29 August 1844
On His Return Journey He Was Speared By The
Natives At Waddikee Rocks 23 October 1844.
He Died The Next Day And Was Buried At The
Foot Of Darke Peak.
                               Unveiled August 1944.
