The chapel at Sydney Church of England Girls Grammar School erected to commemorate Edith Badham (1853 - 1920). The memorial fund for the erection of the chapel was inaugurated by the old girls of the school immediately immediately after Miss Badham's death in 1920. The chapel was dedicated by Archbishop Wright.

The S.C.E.G.G.S was formally opened on 17 July 1895 in a terrace-house in Victoria Street, Darlinghurst, in the presence of six bishops among other dignitaries and with only one pupil. Six months later it was named the Sydney Church of England Grammar School for Girls, and grew so rapidly that in 1896 it moved to larger premises at Potts Point.

Under Miss Badham the S.C.E.G.G.S. continued to grow and a kindergarten was opened in 1900.  The next year the school moved to larger premises at Barham, Forbes Street. She became principal when branch schools were opened at Bowral in 1906 and North Sydney in 1911.

Next Friday the Edith Badham Memorial Chapel at the Sydney Church of England Girls Grammar School will be dedicated by Archbishop Wright, and a long-cherished dream of the first principal of the school will be realised. The late Miss Badham was the daughter of Professor Charles Badham, the famous scholar, and from the foundation of the school in 1895 until her death in 1920 this beloved personality, great scholar and ardent churchwoman, was the inspiration of her teaching staff and the girls taught by her. A memorial fund was inaugurated by the old girls of the school immediately after Miss Badham's death, but only recently has it been found possible to apply the funds collected to the purposes for which they were intended, the equipment of the school chapel, which was always Miss Badham's hope and dream. Invitations to attend the dedication service have been sent to all old girls who have contributed to the memorial; if there are any who still wish to do so they are asked to communicate at once with the hon. treasurers of the memorial fund, C.E.G.G.S., Forbes-street, Darlinghurst.
