The gates were presented to the school by 5th year 1958 to commemorate a former Principal of the school, R. B. White. The gates were officailly opened in 1960. The gates were restored by the class of 62-67 in 2012. 

The gates were built by Harold Smoother whose daughter Bev was also in 5th Year in 1958. The Memorial Oval and Memorial Gates were officially dedicated on June 12, 1960 by the then Dean of Armidale, the Very Reverend M. K. Jones. Mr White’s widow cut the ribbon on the gates and officially opened them.
