Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Constable Brett IrwinPrint Page

A Plaque commemorates Constable Brett Irwin who was shot and killed in the line of duty.
On July 18, 2007, 33-year-old Constable Brett Irwin died on duty while attempting to serve a Bail Act Warrant to a Keperra home. Constable Irwin and his partner who were stationed at the Ferny Grove Police Station attended the home but there was no answer at the front door. Certain there was someone home, Constable Irwin went to the rear of the house. His partner heard a gunshot and Constable Irwin died at the scene from a wound to his chest. The occupant was taken to hospital in a critical condition with head wounds after turning the gun on himself following a standoff of several hours, and later died.
