The building was originally a theatre which was renamed to commemorate Joseph Egan who was a victim of a road rage accident in 2005.

The small town of Howard near Hervey Bay, in south-east Queensland, is in mourning after the tragic death of one of its sons. Soldier Joseph Egan, 22, died from stab wounds after a road rage incident just north of Adelaide last Friday night. Another 26-year-old soldier is in a stable condition in hospital with stab wounds after an argument broke out between the occupants of two cars. Three men aged 19, 20 and 21 are expected to appear in an Adelaide court today charged with Gunner Egan's murder.

Local councillor Bob Campbell says the town is numb at the news.
