A plaque next to the tree commemorates the service of Hector Ellis who was Secretary of the 10th Battalion Ex-Servicemen`s Association.
The tree which was planted by Hector Ellis in 1974 is next to the remaining chimney portion of a building that was part of a training camp during World War Two.
