Millie MarsdenPrint Page
This International Women’s Day we acknowledge the late Millie Marsden, who tirelessly supported her community in Stanthorpe for many years. Born in Warwick in 1928, she started her voluntary work at the tender age of 4 when she joined the QCWA. Millie continued to be a member of the QCWA for 88 years, her service included volunteering as a Tour Leader for QCWA Bush Bash and completing a travelogue series for the QCWA journal. Alongside this, she also organised the Giddy Goanna Farm Safety program for Granite Belt which 1200 school children attended, served meals during the 1968 Killarney Tornado aftermath, and spent 4 days supporting those impacted with the Charleville Flood, just to name a few. Millie did not just join an organisation, she jumped in with both feet, joining the committee that set them up and then running them well including Red Shield Appeal, Leukaemia Foundation, Probus Club and Meals on Wheels. Joining the latter from its inception and retiring just 3 years ago, after 53 years of service. Its women like Millie that have kept our communities and Meals on Wheels alive, we are forever grateful for her tireless contribution.
