Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
George William StockdenPrint Page
The Stockden Memorial Stand commemorates George William Stockden (1912 - 1997).
George William Stockden worked at the family home until his father died, by which time he had a little land and money of his own. When the family home was sold George became an auctioneer for six years, then sold out and bought into a hotel until 1950. He made enough money to buy more land and stayed in the grazing business until 1974 when he sold out again and retired. For many years George rode and showed horses at horse-shows. He remained a bachelor all his life, and died on 18 July 1997.
