The park was named in memory of Roy McDougall (1922-2014).

The Geographical Names Board is calling for public comment on a proposal by Lake Macquarie City Council to name a reserve in Catherine Hill Bay. Chair of the Geographical Names Board, Des Mooney, said feedback is being sought on the proposal to name the reserve, located at the intersection of Flowers Drive and Northwood Road, Roy McDougall Park. Roy McDougall, who was a valued member of the local Catherine Hill Bay community, passed away in 2014. Mr McDougall served in World War II and was a life member of the Catherine Hill Bay Life Saving Club. He was also president of his local RSL Sub-branch for some 50 years.
