The monument was erected over the grave in memory of William H. Chandler, secretary of the United Services Lodge, No. 24, U.G.L., New South Wales who died in 1894.

Yesterday afternoon a special Masonic service took place in the Church of England portion of the Rookwood Cemetery, when there was unveiled a handsome marble monument erected by the officers and members of the United Service Lodge, No. 24, U.G.L., N.S.W., to the memory of their late secretary and brother, Wor. Bro. William H. Chandler.

The ceremony was performed by the Right Wor. the Deputy Grand Master, Wor. Bro. T. E. Spencer. There was a large gathering of the craft and friends of the deceased. The Grand Lodge was represented by in addition to the Deputy Grand Master, the Senior G.W., Wor. Bro. R. Anderson ; President of the Board of Benevolent Purposes, Wor. Bro. G. H. Marsh ; President of the Board of General Purposes, Wor. Bro. A. Rolfe ; Grand Secretary, Wor. Bro. A. Bray ; District Grand Secretary, Wor. Bro. Toomey ; Senior Grand Deacon. Wor. Bro. Soutar ; Swordbearer, Wor. Bro. W. H. Soul; W.M. of United Service Lodge,  Wor. Bro. W. J. Talbot ; and a large number of Past Grand Lodge and officers, masters, and officers of various lodges. The brethren having gathered round the grave, the W.M. of United Service Lodge, Wor. Bro. Talbot, in the name of the lodge requested the Deputy Grand Master to perform the ceremony.

The Deputy Grand Master delivered a short address during which he spoke of the many sterling qualities of the deceased brother, both as a Mason and as a citizen. The deceased brother had taken an active part in this work of the various lodges meeting in the city and country in a manner the value of which the brethren could readily understand. He asked
them as Masons to take an example by the life of the deceased, for those who knew him best loved him the most. The monument was then unveiled.

The monument, which is of polished marble, bears the following inscription:-"In fraternal remembrance of Wor. Bro. William H. Chandler, P.M. United Services Lodge, No. 24, U.G.L., N.S.W. Died 8th April. 1894. Aged 36.
