The monument commemorates garden designer Kathleen (Kitty) Henry who was prominent in the establishment of the University Rose Garden in Queens Domain. The memorial is the centrepiece of the gardens. 

Kathleen (Kitty) Henry, was a contemporary of Edna Walling and she introduced a more naturalistic style, incorporating rockeries and the use of exotic and indigenous plants into her garden design.
