The plaque at the grave commemorates Norman James Hyde who was a gliding pioneer.

A felt hatter by trade, Norman Hyde became inter­ested in gliding at an early age joining the fledgling gliding club at Beverage, north of Melbourne.  During his lifetime involvement with the gliding movement he was responsible for the construction and designed many glid­ers.
