The plaque acknowledges film actor Errol Flynn`s contribution to Tasmania and the motion picture industry. The State Theatre, at 375 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart, opened as a venue for cultural events in 1913 and now has an iconic star on the footpath commemorating Errol, planted firmly by his daughter, Rory, on the occasion of his 100th birthday in 2009.
Born in Tasmania in 1909, during the 1930`s and 1940`s Flynn epitomised glamour, action and romance in cinema classics such as "Captain Blood", "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and "The Sea Hawk". He was a person larger than life and his lifestyle, publicity and court appearances left him burnt out and dead at the age of 50.
