Neil WhitfordPrint Page
The bronze relief plaque commemorates a local saxophone player who entertained shoppers at Camberwell Junction for twenty years. The plaque depicts Neil playing the saxophone with his constant companion by his side. Whitford and his little grey poodle, Benjamin, were a familiar sight in shopping centres across Boroondara, particularly in the Rotary Sunday Market behind Camberwell Junction.
The pair would entertain the crowds regardless of the weather conditions. The small dog, usually sporting a tiny Hawthorn Football Club scarf, was always with Whitford. He died in 2006 after a battle with pneumonia. He was 89.
