The plaque commemorates writer Christina Stead (1902 - 1983). It was unveiled in 2015 on the footpath outside her former home in Watsons Bay.

Christina Stead was an Australian novelist and short-story writer acclaimed for her satirical wit and penetrating psychological characterisations. Christina Stead was a committed Marxist, although she was never a member of the Communist Party.  She spent much of her life outside Australia, although she returned before her death.

The Woollahra Council Plaque Scheme honours exceptional people or events associated with our local government area, that have made a significant impact on life in the area or Australia as a nation.
