The sculpture commemorates the poet Henry Lawson who was born on the Grenfell goldfields.
Henry Lawson (17 June 1867 – 2 September 1922) was an Australian writer and poet. Along with his contemporary Banjo Paterson, Lawson is among the best-known Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period, and is often called Australia's "greatest writer".

This staue of Henry Lawson was officially unveiled on Wednesday 21 May 2014 by the Member for Burrinjuck the Hon. Katrina Hodgkinson MP.
The project was a joint State Government, Local Government and the Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival of Arts Committee initiative.
