A plaque commemorates Lance Hardy O.A.M. who was the organist and choirmaster at the Cathedral from 1951 to 1973.

Mr. Lance Hardy has been appointed organist and director of the choir of St. Paul's Cathedral. Since 1949 he has been organist at All Saints' Church, St. Kilda. He will begin duties at the Cathedral on July 1. He replaces Mr. Colin Campbell Ross, who resigned recently. Mr. Hardy graduated Mus. Bac. at both Melbourne and London Universities, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists. He studied for some time at the Royal College of Music, London.
