Pioneer Park Railway Station was erected to commemorate 200 years of permanent European settlement in Australia. The building houses the S.A.R. "V" Class Locomotive No. 9 which began service in 1877.
1988 was the bicentennial year of Captain Arthur Phillip's arrival with the 11 ships of the First Fleet in Sydney Harbour in 1788, and the founding of the city of Sydney and the colony of New South Wales.
