Traveller`s Walk
Reconstructed in the year 2000 recognising the uphill struggle which faced new arrivals seeking to make a new life on the edge of the continent.
For over 100 years travellers have climbed past this spot, making their way to the town of Palmerston from Stokes Hill wharf. In the 1800`s people carried their possessions up a rough cliff track to an uncertain future, on the goldfields, on the sea or on pastoral stations in the outback.
We now call those people pioneers.
They made the town of Palmerston the city of Darwin and this walk is both a tribute to and a result of, their efforts.
Traveller`s Walk is dedicated to all those pioneers who came to the Territory and was opened by the Hon Tim Baldwin, Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment and the Lord Mayor of Darwin, George Brown.
