Crossed this point on 28th August 1818 pursuing an E.N.E. course
Looking back into the valley he recognised the mountains he had named and on a clear day you too can see from left to right

This memorial was erected by Gunnedah Shire Council and unveiled on 16th October 1985 by the Shire Engineer John Linklater
