H. M. S. Beagle
A tribute to Lieutenant John Lort Stokes and crew of the survey ship H. M. S. Beagle
The Beagle a Cherokee Class brig-sloop of ten guns launched 11, May 1820, surveyed this coastline in Dec 1844
The ship`s work continued for 50 years for the Admiralty until 13, May 1870 when she was sold.
Stokes joined the vessel in October 1825 as a Midshipman and commanded it between 16, August 1841 and 4 July 1848.
