Centenary of the State of Victoria Print Page 
Cypress trees in Centennial Avenue (Railway Street) were planted to commemorate the Centenary of Victoria's foundation as a separate state.
Victoria was officially created a separate colony in 1851, and achieved self-government in 1856.
