The Police Legacy Walk is a dedicated walkway with specially engraved pavers of officer's names past and present, with members of the New South Wales Police Force and the public able to 'buy a brick' and have their name etched into Taree's history.

A new $18-million dollar, state-of-the-art police station on the state's mid north coast has been officially opened today by Minister for Police and Emergency Services, The Hon. David Elliott and NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller APM.

Construction of Taree Police Station began in September 2018 and incorporates custody facilities with charge docks and cells, Audio Visual Link (AVL), modern breath analysis and drug testing equipment and facilities, briefing rooms and innovative forensic facilities.

The new modern station replaces the previous building on the site which dated back to 1886. The former station had served the Taree and wider Manning-Great Lakes community for more than 130-years. The building no longer met the needs of the local community or the officers stationed there.

The new station is also unique, with the inclusion of the 'Police Legacy Walk' – a dedicated walkway with specially engraved pavers of officer's names past and present, with members of the NSW Police Force and the public able to 'buy a brick' and have their name etched into Taree's history.

NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller APM said the capabilities available to the Manning-Great Lakes Police District are now some of the best in the state. "The new station means our police are housed in a modern and innovative facility with access to cutting edge resources to respond to, target, disrupt and prevent crime in the local community," Commissioner Fuller said.

"The community should feel extremely confident in the outstanding officers from the Manning-Great Lakes Police District, who continue to work hard to protect and safeguard the community. The unique concept for the Police Legacy Walk is also a fantastic initiative by Superintendent Cribb and the entire team here, it's a great way to raise awareness and funds for NSW Police Legacy."

Minister Elliott said the investment into regional infrastructure is a major boost to the Manning-Great Lakes Police District. "This new station will deliver the extra space and resources needed to support the growing number of police allocated to the region," Mr Elliott said. "This Government continues to support the vital work of our policemen and women across this state."

Manning-Great Lakes Police District Commander, Superintendent Shane Cribb has welcomed the improved facilities and resources.
