A tree was planted in 1986 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of South Australia. The plaque is located near a tree which is presumed to be the one planted.

South Australia celebrated the 150th anniversary of European settlement in 1986 with a year of activities. The year of celebration was officially launched on New Year's Eve 1985, and concluded on Proclamation Day, 28 December 1986. Proclamation Day is South Australia's official birthday and commemorates the proclamation of the province of South Australia by Governor John Hindmarsh at Glenelg in 1836.
