Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Department of Education Commemoration StonePrint Page
The stone was laid in 1912 to commemorate the construction of the Department of Education building.
The Education Department Building is an 8 storey office building occupying a whole city block. It was built in two stages around a central courtyard, and hence has two sets of lifts and stairs, now with modern galleries added around the courtyard to connect the two sides of the building. The Bridge Street stage was designed in the Edwardian Baroque style, with a strongly rusticated base, central porch with broken pediment, and a sequence of arched openings, ornamented balconies and friezes topped by a lofty parapet.
