The plaque commemorates detainess of the General Pinochet government in Chile who have disappeared since 1973.
On September 11, 1973, a military coup was led by General Augusto Pinochet, and during a concerted attack on the presidential palace, President Salvador Allende died. Following General Augusto Pinochet’s accession to power in the military coup, a movement in opposition to the dictatorship gained momentum over the next 15 years despite assassinations, torture, and the “disappearance” of over 3,000 political opponents and officials of the previous democratic government.
