A plaque commemorates the first meeting of the Richmond Municipal Council at the premises in 1856.
On Friday last the first meeting of the Municipal Council of Richmond took place, at half-past seven o'clock, at the Star aud Garter Hotel, Richmond-road. The seven members of the Council-Messrs. Miller, Campbell, Burnley, P. Johnson, Little, H. St. John Clarke, and H. Johnson were present. A number of gentlemen, residents of Richmond, also attended to witness the inauguration of the Corporation. The members having taken their seats, proceeded to elect a Chairman to preside at their meetings, in conformity with the provisions of the Municipal institutions Act.
