Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page
The tree commemorates the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
The City of Greater Geraldton received funding of $10,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees at Wonthella Bushland Reserve led by the Friends of Geraldton Gardens, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will revegetate the area and enhance habitat for native fauna.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
We unveiled the plaque for the Queens Jubilee year this morning. We had a lovely morning tea with great company. Councillor Steve Cooper planted a tree. Stylobasium spathulatum aka Pebble bush Thanks to Melissa Price for granting the funding the CGG so we could hold the event and Megan O’Grady at the City of Greater Geraldton for applying for those funds and organising the event. Great work Megan. We like our new rock with plaque. It looks great! Next year we plant 200 trees for a Queen. Banksia prionotes and Grevillea candelabroides. Two of the canopy species endemic to the Wonthella Bushland Reserve.

Note: The additional 200 tree plantings did not go ahead in the reserve as planned in 2023 as a respected tradional Elder shut down proceedings on the basis of ground disturbance and the ‘significance’ of the site to the family. it is believed the tree plantings will take place in other locations.
