Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Strathmerton Community Steering Committee Incorporated received funding of $16,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees, install a commemorative sign and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will beautify the reserve and provide habitat for native fauna.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

We are in the process of preparing a grant application for the Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee program. We plan to plant 1200 native tree tube stock along the proposed walking track around the Strathmerton Recreation Reserve. We are seeking a quote from a local provider for digging the 1200 holes we will require for the planting. If our application is successful, the work will take place from late September to early October. We are hoping to receive the quote in time for our next committee meeting on Wednesday, 11 May, but we need it by Friday, 13 May at the latest to submit the grant application.
