The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State. 

Whitehorse City Council received funding of $8,887 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant mature trees on road verges in Mont Albert, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will beautify the local environment and enhance the tree canopy.  

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

Windsor Crescent Reserve - Planting Trees for Queen's Jubilee 

Council received $8,887 funding from the Australian Government's Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee Program.  The project has enabled Council to plant an additional 42 street trees in vacant sites identified across the Mont Albert area
 Project Outcomes
  •  Assist towards extending tree canopy connectivity in the local environment.
  • Provide cooling opportunities and additional shade, enhance biodiversity.
  • Provided and connected additional habitat for native fauna.
  • Assist Council in expanding the urban forest and adapt to climate change.
What is the benefit to Council?
  • The project will assist Council to increase tree canopy in Whitehorse and support Council towards achieving the Urban Forest Strategy targets to increase tree canopy to 27% by 2031 and 30% by 2050.
What is the benefit to the community?
  • Provide an ongoing traffic calming effect, with traffic moving slower and safely through the streets.
  • Improved health and wellbeing.
  • Reduced urban heat island effects.
  • Improved soil and water conservation, cleaner air and water.
