The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State. 

Melbourne Anglican Trust Corporation received funding of $19,400 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees at St John`s Riverside Community Garden, install commemorative plaques and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance the tree canopy and provide additional habitat for native fauna.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

What a wonderful day! The weather was perfect for our celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee Planting, our significant trees and our community-filled garden all made possible - with sincere thanks - to Banyule Council, Bendigo Bank and the Queens Jubilee Trust. Thanks to all involved who made it a great event - garden members and guests alike. Special thanks to Kate Thwaites MP for unveiling the plaque. Also to accompany Ben Kenyon, consultant arborist in his teaching re planting trees and then walk. It was particularly insightful re ways to retain more of the tree canopy. A real privilege to spend time with him.
